Karting Tires

.
Karting tires are much smaller than the tires on a passenger car. Wheels are made of either
magnesium alloy or aluminium. As in other car sports, Karting tires are in two different categories. Dry tires which are beeing used on a dry track and wet tires which are beeing used when on a wet track. There are also dubbed tires that are beeing used on ice tracks.

Dry tires are using pretty low air pressure. On a warm sunny day usually the air pressure is under 1 bar. Of course different tyre compounds have different air pressures. On the other hand, wet tires are using much higher air pressure. Because when there is water between the track and tires, the tires won't heat up as easily as when the track is dry. The air pressure itself are usually somewhere between 1,3-2,5 bars, obviously depending on the conditions (i.e. more water, higher pressure).

Some of the Karting tyre manufacturers:

  • Bridgestone
  • Continental
  • Dunlop
  • Vega
  • Mojo
  • Sawa
  • MG

.
In addition to dry and wet tires
there is these dubbed tires, that
are being used on ice tracks.
These tires looks alot like wet
tires. They just have been added
some studs that are making more
grip on the ice. Picture on the
right side shows an example
how a dubbed tyre looks like.
